30th ANNIVERSARY OF PEÑA ATLÉTICA LA BAÑEZA 'UN SENTIMIENTO'

30th ANNIVERSARY OF PEÑA ATLÉTICA LA BAÑEZA 'UN SENTIMIENTO'

Still with a smile on our faces (and a few anecdotes that will take a while to forget) after a wonderful day… A heartfelt thanks to Peña Atlética La Bañeza “Un sentimiento” for inviting us to celebrate their 30th anniversary on Saturday, October 11. It was a perfect day, one of those that makes you feel reconciled with everything.

Saturday began with the traditional football match, which ended in a penalty shootout—perhaps because Rafa, president of Peña Mallorca, acted as referee. The next day, many of the participants complained about sore muscles; it seems age and inactivity spare neither the body nor the memory… and certainly not how to play football!

The celebration continued with a lunch full of reunions and laughter, during which we gradually welcomed everyone as they arrived. And without leaving the table, surrounded by coffee cups, little shot glasses, and warm conversations, we turned the dessert into the perfect stage for the presentation of my book “Merece la peña”, together with the wonderful Patricia Cazón, journalist from the sports newspaper AS.

That intimate and relaxed atmosphere, which only comes from having good people, good humor, and good food, made the presentation unforgettable and the talk special. The audience was also very engaged—which is greatly appreciated—and the response was so warm that… all the copies sold out!

In the afternoon, we joined the traditional Mass in memory of the Peña members. The priest was a little distracted… but we forgave him gladly, because even that added a charming touch to the moment. We missed seeing our Atleti flag on the altar and hearing the club anthem at the end, but nothing could stop everyone present from carrying Atlético in their hearts.

Dinner was a whirlwind of emotions, with kind words, expressions of gratitude, gift exchanges, tributes to beloved people, and, of course, raffles that brought smiles and applause throughout the room. We also had a very special guest: Donato Gama da Silva, a historic former Atlético player, who came with his wife and joined the lively atmosphere like one of us.

The cherry on top was the spectacular Metropolitando Rock Band, which set the party on fire and didn’t leave anyone still. Between singing, laughter, and endless partying, some even lost the seat they were sitting on and had to figure out where they had left it. These things happen at Peña anniversaries.

And like every great party… this one couldn’t end early. The last brave ones stayed until 6 a.m., literally “turning the bar upside down.”

Thank you for everything: for the welcome, the affection, the laughter, and for letting us feel part of this special family. Because when there’s a Peña… Merece la peña!
